"March”ing Towards Literacy Little X Little

The Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE) Kenya was honored to be able to participate in its 2nd crowdfunding campaign with our partner Global Giving, in the form of the Little X Little matching week.

We are so thankful to be able to announce that during this Little X Little campaign we were able to raise nearly $3,000, with an estimated match of $1,100, for a total of $4,100 for the Sijowa Library Project! This brings the project’s overall total to just over $12,000 raised, or roughly 1/3rd of the way towards a fully funded project.

We want to take this opportunity to thank the 56 different donors who partnered with us during the fundraising week, and we particularly want to thank the four individuals who raised funds through their own personal fundraisers: Alexandra Carmichael, Jeongmin Kim, Ashley Palmer, and Eusebius Small. We could not achieve anything without the help and support from people like you and we are humbled beyond words that there are so many people out there with a heart for the children in Busia County, Kenya.

We are very excited to share with you that we broke ground on the perimeter fence earlier this month, and here is a photo of some of the progress so far:

To some, these may seem like small steps. However, to the community members and children of Sijowa and surrounding areas the hope this momentum forward signifies is huge! if there is anything that the Little X Little fundraising campaigns have shown us (and we hope you too) it is that Little X Little we can make our way towards our goals and a brighter future.

Keep your eyes out for an exciting new event coming in June of this year and as always if you should want to volunteer or talk with us about COCE and our mission to serve children and orphans in rural Busia County, Kenya please do not hesitate to reach out to outreach@cocekenya.org
