A Reason to be Thankful

This September, all of us here at the Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE) were very excited to partner with Global Giving to raise money through their Little x Little crowdfunding campaign. We shared some of the results earlier this year, but during this time of celebration and thanks, we wanted to take a moment to send out appreciation to all of the people who made it a success.

During this campaign, we were able to raise over $5,000 USD in individual donations for our community library project. To top off this amazing feat, Global Giving matched donations from the campaign to bring COCE’s total funds raised up to $6,983 USD! Every dollar of the money raised came from personal fundraisers started by people who believe in COCE’s mission, projects, and purpose.

We mentioned early in the Little x Little campaign that we wanted to honor the top fundraiser for the campaign, and we are so excited to announce that Ms. Jeongmin Kim raised over $1,000 for the community library in Sijowa. Ms. Kim has been a steadfast partner with COCE over the years and we want to not only share our gratitude for her, but also a little bit of what inspires her to partner with COCE.

Ms. Kim previously worked with our Executive Director, Dr. Eusebius Small as a research assistant and came to be familiar with COCE’s mission of helping youth escape poverty through educational access and success. She first partnered with COCE by volunteering as a Course Monitor during the New Year’s Eve Double Marathon!

When speaking about helping with fundraising for COCE’s projects, Ms. Kim shared: “I was grateful for the opportunity to participate in such worthy cause  . . . Each time I [reach] my personal fundraising goal, I [feel] that the experience enable[s] me to not only to feel good about helping the ones in need but somehow the experience enriche[s] and enhance[s] my life as well”. At COCE, we are thankful to have people, like Ms. Kim, who continue to be inspired to make a difference in Kenyan children’s lives with us!

If you want to learn more about partnering with COCE to start your own fundraiser, please email us at outreach@cocekenya.org. You can also start one at https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/communitylibrary/, or create one on Facebook through COCE’s Facebook page. 100% of the proceeds go to helping increase educational access to children in Busia County, Kenya.
