Creating a Space for Opportunity, Access, and Creativity

The Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE) is busily working to finalize space plans for our community library. The need for a physical place that provides opportunities for education, socializing, and creativity has existed since before COCE was founded. In fact, the need for a space such as this is at the heart of why COCE exists.

Kenya’s national moto is Harambee, which means “pulling together.” This sense of community and collectiveness is evident throughout aspects of Kenyan culture; you can even see it within our agency’s name, The Collective for Orphan Care and Education. This community library will provide space for primary, secondary, and tertiary students and even older community members to study and learn. Moreover, it will provide space for creativity to shine, through music, arts, science, and technology and bring people together to achieve common goals.

Planning this space to meet not only the now needs of books and tables but also the future needs for programming and events takes time. However, with the help of our partners, we are nearing the end of this work, with the goal of beginning the first phase of construction for the library building’s foundation early in 2022. We hope you will continue alongside us for this journey because together we will achieve much more than any one agency or person ever could.
