Growing Global Citizenship 2022

On August 6, 2022, The Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE) Kenya staff were delighted to join Mayfield Babtist Church in our Growing Global Citizenship event. The in-person activity-filled event was organized and lead by COCE’s summer interns Kierra Glover and Kaitlin Cowan.

Inspired by Pastor Hall’s recent mission trip to Kenya, members of the church were invited to bring their children to learn about Kenyan culture and COCE Kenya’s work to create access to education through school sponsorship and educational infrastructure and resources. During this hour-long event, Growing Global Citizenship’s aim was in increasing cultural awareness of Kenya and Kenyan children while having fun!

Members of the congregation who attended Growing Global Citizenship learned some common Swahili words, including Jambo (hello) and Karibu (welcome). Attendees were also introduced to a few fun African dance moves!

"For You am a Kenyan Child” by Kelly Cunnane was read aloud, and children were invited to create their own story inspired by the children’s book.
